DECA NEWS 2/18/09

This email is being sent out to all parents of DECA students who will be participating at the State DECA Conference March 8,9,&10

Your help is needed.

In order to make this event a success we desperately need judges. Would you or anyone else that you know be willing to help us out and judge? You can sign up to judge for one, two or three days. You will not be judging your own student’s event and you do not need to know much about DECA/marketing. Everything is explained to you on the day(s) you choose to judge. I have attached information answering all possible questions pertaining to judging. Please fill out the attached word document and return it to me in order to secure your spot as a DECA judge.

What you can do to help your student do well at state.

  1. Encourage them to take practice tests – they are located on our DECA web site http://www.district196.org/rhs/deca/CompetitionPrep.html - the students should know the user name and password. If they can not remember just email me.
  2. Practice, practice, practice and practice some more…whether they are in a role play, fashion promotion plan, job interview, or sales demonstration. To be successful they must practice, practice, and practice some more. All events can be found on http://www.district196.org/rhs/deca/CompetitionPrep.html . All events have judges instructions which makes it extremely easy for you to play the role of a judge.
  3. Make sure they attend the weekly DECA meeting on Fridays @ 7 AM, we break down role plays, do interviews, give presentations, etc…
  4. I have also attached a check list for success in DECA events to help you guide your students preparation.

Follow us at the conference on Twitter

We are going to try something new this year and post Twitter updates throughout the conference. Go to www.twitter.com/irishdeca and click on follow. You will have to set up an account. It is easy and once you have an account you can set it up to get email updates of what is going on at the conference. I plan to update this often while at the conference.

If you are ever wondering what DECA is doing check out our Irish DECA news web site http://irishdecanews.blogspot.com/

Thank you so much for your support of Irish DECA! We have a very talented group of students participating, which makes me very optimistic going into this conference.

Have a great day
